The best brains of the nations may be found on the last benches of the classrooms

UGC-Academic Staff College (ASC), University of Calcutta, began its journey on 08 October 1990 during the Seventh Five Year Plan under UGC formulated Academic Staff Orientation Scheme (ASOS). Since 01 February 2015 under the Twelfth Five Year Plan this autonomous institution of UGC has been rechristened as UGC- Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC). Attached to the University of Calcutta, the host university, this Centre is currently getting substantial financial support for man-power and infrastructure development from the Government of West Bengal, through the Department of Higher Education and the University of Calcutta. However, full financial assistance of UGC for running the day to day business of the Centre and to organize the approved academic programmes is commendable.

The Centre has persistently engaged itself in organizing a number of Orientation Programmes, Refresher Courses, Seminars and Workshops, and various Capacity Building Programmes with the primary objective of training the teachers and other stake-holders engaged in higher education institutions of the country to discharge their professional commitments more effectively. Our functions have got a new dimension in the wake of the decision by the authorities to make participation in these programmes mandatory for the purpose of career advancement of the faculty members.
